This Coiled Vessel workshop with Jeweller and contemporary craftsperson Mel Young introduces the process of coil weaving to create small colourful vessels using a simple stitching technique. You will be working with wool, jute and fabric offcuts to make a small three- dimensional vessel. All materials will be provided.
This is an extremely relaxing and portable craft practice that can be taken anywhere!
Mel Young is an established contemporary craftsperson living and working on beautiful Dharawal Country. Her practice spans exhibition and studio production work and she has been an educator for over 20 years in the tertiary and community sectors. Mel’s work explores materiality and place with an emphasis on collected, natural or re-purposed materials as vehicles for narrative. She has a particular interest in low-tech making, and is a firm believer that a great deal can be done with very little. Her work explores and incorporates elements from a broad range of craft practices including jewellery, textiles, woodwork and coiled basketry.
