Longer days and bigger smiles
Hello,
How good is a long weekend for morale? Longer days and a short week are just the thing to let you know that the season has changed, and it’s time to start living life again. As a night owl rather than an early bird- the arrival of daylight savings marks the conclusion of the “hibernate and endure” phase- and the commencement of the fun end of the year. Somehow leaving work in the light just makes fun and healthy habits seem a little more possible again. So let’s call October-April the “open to opportunities” season and get started!
Here at WorkLife we are marking the occasion with a jam packed program between now and the end of the year. October is traditionally Small Business Month in NSW- and to celebrate we are hosting a month of FREE & Friendly Friday’s of Coworking at our three spaces. These are designed to break down a little of the loneliness epidemic that is plaguing remote workers and allow some of those Coworking-curious folks a chance to see if a day or so Coworking a week might just be the thing to boost your productivity and sense of community. There are also LOTS of other FREE small business month events worth checking out in your area.
Next month in Berry we welcome our NEW operators for our favourite Summer-living initiative-SocialLife. For the warmer months (Nov-May) WorkLife in Berry converts on Friday afternoons from a hive Coworking productivity into its alter-ego- a fun-loving community wine-bar. James and Chelsea from Yakka House in Port Kembla will be taking over the reigns and stocking the shelves with their signature mix of natural & biodynamic wines and boutique brews. Expect wine tasting and live music events- and a whole lot of fun in the sun once they settle in.
Then, to encourage our resident WorkLifer’s to connect with the green-shoots in their own lives- we have a really fun October Members lunch series coming up at each of our spaces- I wanted to call them the “Potheads Parties” – but some very clever members of my team with some skills in comms and branding overruled me- and so we will be hosting three more workplace-appropriate “Potting Parties” this month. These lunches will roll into an afternoon working bee- where you can bring your long neglected indoor plants into work with you and join us in tending to the greenery in our spaces. With the help of some of our favourite neighbourhood green thumbs we will repot/ pot-swap, take cuttings and return home with dirt under our nails, a boosted microbiome and some newly fertilised plants ready to soak up all the sunshine and good times of the summer ahead.
Oh- and if that wasn’t enough- I am lucky to be part of the Industry-mentor program at this years SXSW (for anyone looking for Social Enterprise/ Regional Development/ Coworking/Community Building support- I’m available for 15 minute blocks of FREE advice bookable here– or check out the other incredible people similarly showing up to share their skills and experiences)- after that, I can’t wait to hoover up all a lifetimes worth of Entrepreneurial and Cultural Inspo in a few days in Sydney.
Plus closer to home, there are plans afoot for workshops in Picton to coincide with BLOOM, preparations for our support of the Berry Writers Festival and the hosting of another IGNITE event in Berry. And for the Coledale crew- we have the excitement of the upcoming Illawarra Festival of Architecture & Design followed by our first Coffee catchup for the newly reinvigorated Northern Illawarra Chamber of Commerce to attend all before the month is out.
Spring has sprung, the days are longer and the vibes are brighter. It’s time to step into the season for living.
See you at WorkLife very soon!
Kate
