Stand up and Speak out

Stand up and Speak out

Hello Lifer’s

February has felt a bit fast and furious this year- the summer holidays are officially behind us, I pulled out a jumper the other day, school is finally back (after the longest school holidays on record!) and the rhythm of work and life is back in full swing.

If you are a mortgage holder, I hope that you managed to breathe out just a bit this last week with relief. For the first time in four years, interest rates have dropped. Now one small cut doesn’t change everything overnight, but sentiment does matter. After years of gritting and grinding it out- maybe, just maybe, we’ve got to the summit, can take in the view and set off on a slightly easier chapter with a bit of a spring in our step and a few battle scars to keep us wise.

This International Women’s Day, we’re embracing the Unesco March Forward theme—because progress doesn’t happen without people stepping up, speaking out, and moving together toward change. At WorkLife, we believe in the power of women gathering—not just to celebrate how far we’ve come, but to stand side by side and support each other in the challenges still ahead.

That’s why we’re thrilled to be hosting two IWD events this year—one at WorkLife Coledale on Wednesday March 5, and another at Clare and Richard (two of WorkLife’s original members!) stunning ElevenEighty wedding venue in Coolangatta on Thursday March 6.

In a world where the loudest voices don’t always reflect the deepest truths, taking the time to gather, reflect, and lift each other up is a radical act. So if you identify as a women marching forward in your career, your business, your community, or just through the daily juggle of work and life, come and be part of this celebration. It’s a rare chance to be inspired by the brilliant, ambitious, creative, and caring women who make our communities thrive.

And, because I can’t ignore the yellow elephant in the room, yes—the Kate Dezarnaulds 4 Gilmore campaign for the Federal seat of Gilmore is in full swing (election date still TBC, but Community Independents Project endorsement and Climate200 support confirmed this week!). If you’re a regular reader of these emails- and live in Gilmore- you’ll see a little more yellow in your emails for the next few weeks, and I’d love for you to be part of it—whether that means volunteering, voting, donating. Now if you’re a committed Liberal, Labor, or Greens voter, I totally get it—feel free to scroll on by or delete the email. But if, like me, you believe that small business, community, and politics are deeply connected, the two-party duopoly has wandered off the sensible centre track and that we need to do politics a little differently, then I’d love your support. Just reply to this email or sign up as a supporter, donor or volunteer here. And follow along the campaign journey and spread the word from here and here.

Back to life at WorkLife- we are thrilled to see our spaces busy and vibrant as ever, and it’s a joy to see new faces, fresh ideas, and that familiar New year/ New you energy filling the air. If you’re looking to shake things up in 2025, why not give coworking a go?

As always, we’d love to have you- and to make it extra tempting- February is FREE for all new coworking members.

Here’s to a month of momentum, optimism, and community.

Kate

PS. each year I re-share the watch-out that IWD has been pink-washed by a UK PR Company with superior SEO to the UN. They tend to run a second theme to make it less challenging for big business to engage with- be careful of events themed with the limper and less political theme for 2025….Accelerate Action….and let them know of their innocent mistake if you see it out and about.
