Community and Background:

Can you tell us a bit about your journey to the Berry/Picton/Coledale community? How did you end up here and what attracted you to this community?

I’ve spent over 30 years in business advisory and accounting, with a career that’s taken me across the globe—from my birthplace in Trinidad to the USA, London, Venezuela, and Spain. These days, I’m happily rooted in the Illawarra, where I get to combine global insight with local heart. What drew me here—and keeps me here—is the strong sense of community, the natural beauty, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the region I now call home.

Business and Entrepreneurship:

Tell us about your work. How and when did you decide to start it, and what motivated you to take the plunge into entrepreneurship or remote work?

I always knew I would be an entrepreneur. I saved all my money and at the age of 11 started my 1st business, a clowning business, employing my sister and friends to entertain and organise kid parties and corporate events. Fast forward to today, I wear three professional hats, all united by a passion for empowering small businesses. I run Brew Accounting, a full-service boutique firm helping clients achieve financial, time, and mental freedom. I also serve as a Business Advisor with Enterprise Plus, offering free, government-funded support through the Business Connect program. And I’m proud to be President of the Northern Illawarra Chamber of Commerce, where I advocate for and connect our vibrant local business community.

What does work-life balance look like for you? How do you manage the demands of work while ensuring time for family and personal life?

A few years ago, I hit burnout and came to the tough realisation that I was addicted to work. Since then, I’ve done a lot of internal work to better understand myself and my patterns. These days, I try to live more in the present moment—flexing my work-life balance muscle as needed. It’s not perfect, but it’s intentional. And that shift has made all the difference.

In your industry, what recent disruptions or transitions have had the most significant impact on your business?

I’m currently raising awareness about the NSW Government’s decision to shut down the Business Connect program by 30 Sept 2025. This free service has supported thousands of small businesses—including many in our region. I’m encouraging business owners to speak up via https://www.mybusinessmyvoice.com.au/ and to book their 8 free hours of business advice before it’s gone: https://mybusiness.service.nsw.gov.au/business-connect/advisors/6314yq3uxq?from=business-connect.

Personal Life:

Outside of work, what are your hobbies and passions? How do you like to spend your time when you’re not focused on business or family?

Mindfulness Self-Compassion has been life-changing for me. My weekly check-in is simple: if I’ve read the Good Weekend’s Two of Us article on Saturday morning and watched the latest Australian Story on ABC, I know I’ve carved out space for myself. Time with my girlfriends nourishes my soul, and I’m incredibly proud of my teenage sons who are finding their own kind way in the world. Most important of all is my husband—through ease and difficulty, he’s still standing with me. I’m deeply grateful.

How do you maintain boundaries between work and personal life? Any top tips?

Fierce compassion has become my friend.

Home and Lifestyle:

What is your taste like? Do you have a favourite item of furniture or object in your home? Anything that has special significance or tells a story about you?

I’m not big on interiors or styling trends, but I do love our red front door—it’s bold, welcoming, and a little nod to my Caribbean roots. It makes me smile every time I come home.

What do you like/appreciate about the design at WorkLife? Any favourite touches or things that make you feel at home when you are at work?

I love the cheerful yellow brand colour—it lifts the energy of the space. The light-filled boardroom is a favourite spot to think and collaborate. But what really makes WorkLife special is the people and the energy. It’s a beautiful blend of productivity and inspiration, and I love being surrounded by others who are passionate about what they do.

If you were to showcase the best of the local lifestyle to visiting friends, where would you take them and why?

I’m totally biased, but I think the Northern Illawarra is one of the most beautiful gems in the country. I’d start with a walk anywhere along the Grand Pacific Walk, from the Royal National Park to Thirroul—whether you’re soaking in the escarpment or the ocean, it’s all breathtaking. We’re also spoiled with some of the best hospitality venues around—pop into any of them for a bevvy and a feed, and you’ll be glad you did. Someone once said we should be called the Culture Coast, thanks to places like Anita’s Theatre and the thriving arts and entertainment scene—and honestly, they’re right. We’re incredibly lucky to live here.

Productivity and Time Management:

What’s your go-to productivity hack? How do you stay organised and efficient, especially with multiple responsibilities?

A good friend, Danielle Dobson from Code Conversations once shared something with me that really stuck: be intentional about how you use – and don’t use – your energy. That’s become my go-to approach. I try to accept both the ease and the challenges of life with equanimity. By choosing acceptance over resistance, I find I have the energy I need to live a full and wonderful life.

Benefits of WorkLife Membership:

Lastly, what’s been the most valuable aspect of being a member at WorkLife for you and your work?

WorkLife Coledale has been more than just a workspace – it’s become a hub for connection and community. It’s also the home base for the Northern Illawarra Chamber of Commerce, and we’re so grateful for their support. If you are looking to grow your local business network, I’d love to welcome you to the Northern Illawarra Chamber of Commerce (NICC): https://nicc.net.au/membership/. Membership is packed with benefits and just $99 per year — a great investment in your business community. And our next NICC networking event will be hosted by Worklife Coledale, mark 24th September in your diary, you will not want to miss this one.
