Community and Background
Can you tell us a bit about your journey to the Coledale community? How did you end up here and what attracted you to this community?
I grew up in the Illawarra, with my grandparents living in Thirroul. As often happens in the Thirroul community, a random connection-turned friend recommended me for a job, and I ended up working with Karla on her book. When we were searching for a private work space, I toured the Coledale Worklife space and was impressed!
Business and Entrepreneurship
Tell us about your work. How and when did you decide to start it, and what motivated you to take the plunge into entrepreneurship or remote work?
My main line of work is ecology. I am an independent contractor, often working on fauna and flora surveys or projects. Working in our natural environments to preserve them (mostly from human impact) is my passion.
What does work-life balance look like for you? How do you manage the demands of work while ensuring time for family and personal life?
Living with a chronic illness means that work-life balance includes a lot of self care and rest. For Karla and I, working shorter hours more often allows us to get a lot of work done without burning out physically or mentally.
Personal Life
Outside of work, what are your hobbies and passions? How do you like to spend your time when you’re not focused on business or family?
Outside of work you can find me crafting, babysitting, camping, and playing field hockey.
Are there any books or podcasts you’ve found particularly inspiring or informative recently? Any recommendations for the WorkLife community?
Ologies with Alie Ward’ is an educational and entertaining podcast. There is an episode topic for EVERYONE.
What do you like/appreciate about the design at WorkLife? Any favourite touches or things that make you feel at home when you are at work?
I am always getting into the coffee and snacks. The kitchen and bathrooms are always spotless!
If you were to showcase the best of the local lifestyle to visiting friends, where would you take them and why?
I would take them to Thirroul Hot Bread bakery (near coles) for the best sweets, then to Sharky Beach to watch the beautiful ocean and look for whales.
Benefits of WorkLife Membership
Lastly, what’s been the most valuable aspect of being a member at WorkLife for you and your work?
Being surrounded by productive people encourages me to work.
