Community and Background:
Can you tell us a bit about your journey to the Berry community? How did you end up here and what attracted you to this community?
I lived in Gerringong until the age of 18, which fostered a strong connection to the area. Berry has always been a place I cherished for its vibrant food scene, stunning scenery, markets, and events like the Berry Show. As a typical teenager in the country, I wanted experiences beyond my hometown, and I left after high school to study dentistry. After completing my dental studies, I spent many years practicing in Sydney, where I enjoyed the dynamic urban environment. However, I started to miss the relaxed lifestyle, close community and natural surroundings I had grown up with. In late 2018, my husband Sam and I made the decision to return to the South Coast and establish Berry Dental Studio.
Business and Entrepreneurship:
Tell us about your work. How and when did you decide to start it, and what motivated you to take the plunge into entrepreneurship or remote work?
Throughout my career in Sydney, I gained invaluable experience working at a high-end general dental clinic and a leading orthodontic practice in Sydney. This allowed me to develop my passion for digital dentistry and the crucial role of dental health in overall health. Witnessing the life changing dental care possible for both children and adults inspired me to bring similar philosophies to the South Coast. In April 2019, I opened Berry Dental Studio, a practice dedicated to providing the highest quality dentistry, an enjoyable patient experience and using the latest technology.
Personal Life:
Outside of work, what are your hobbies and passions? How do you like to spend your time when you’re not focused on business or family?
When I’m not working, I enjoy pilates and spending time in nature, at the beach, bushwalking, or surfing.
If you were to showcase the best of the local lifestyle to visiting friends, where would you take them and why?
I would take them for a walk in one of the many stunning places in the area, such as Black Head at Gerroa, Drawing Room Rocks, or the coastal tracks at Werri Beach, followed by lunch in Berry.
Productivity and Time Management:
What’s your go-to productivity hack? How do you stay organised and efficient, especially with multiple responsibilities?
I absolutely love being a dentist, but I’m not passionate about paperwork. I utilise all the software I can to streamline processes for myself and our team. I have the most amazing staff at the studio, and they keep everything organised for me, allowing me to focus on my core responsibilities.
For productivity, I don’t have any special secrets. I make a handwritten list of important tasks and keep it in front of me. When I have a block of time, I work through the list with my phone on “Do Not Disturb.” I need a quiet and focused area to be productive. In the past, I have used libraries to eliminate distractions; now, I use WorkLife.
Benefits of WorkLife Membership:
Lastly, what’s been the most valuable aspect of being a member at WorkLife for you and your work?
Having my membership means I have access to a beautiful workspace without distractions, allowing maximum productivity. I also love the meeting rooms to have team meetings and planning sessions. We are lucky as WorkLife is our neighbour on Albert Street in Berry, making working there very convenient.
The staff at WorkLife make everything function smoothly which creates a stress-free and relaxing environment to complete tasks. Thank you for providing such a great space and community!
