David Brown // Director at Pinnacle Finance Hub

Meet David — a valued WorkLife member who genuinely loves the Illawarra and puts his time and energy into supporting the local business community.

Community and Background

Can you tell us a bit about your journey to the Coledale community? How did you end up here and what attracted you to this community?

I’m mainly based in Coledale, and over the past couple of years I’ve built a really strong network with local business owners and people in Wollongong.

We spent a lot of our holidays at our family farm at Rose Valley and Gerringong

I really enjoy working locally. It’s a great community, and I value the relationships and trust I’ve built with people here.

Business and Entrepreneurship

Tell us about your work. How and when did you decide to start it, and what motivated you to take the plunge into entrepreneurship or remote work?

I started Pinnacle Finance Hub after spending around 10 years working in commercial and business banking. During that time, I worked closely with business owners and saw firsthand how important the right finance strategy could be—but I also saw how many clients were being treated as transactions rather than individuals.

I wanted the opportunity to work more closely with clients, understand their goals, and provide advice that looked beyond simply getting a loan approved. That led me to establish Pinnacle Finance Hub.

Today, I help business owners, property investors and homeowners make informed financial decisions across commercial, business and residential lending. My focus is on simplifying what can often be a complex process and helping clients build strategies that support their long-term goals.

Entrepreneurship appealed to me because it gave me the freedom to build a business around relationships, trust and personalised advice. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the work I do helps people buy their first home, grow their business, purchase commercial property or take the next step in building their wealth.

What does work-life balance look like for you? How do you manage the demands of work while ensuring time for family and personal life?

In your industry, what recent disruptions or transitions have had the most significant impact on your business?

The finance industry has experienced significant change over the past few years. Higher interest rates have prompted more homeowners and business owners to review their lending, while lenders have continued to adjust their credit policies in response to changing economic conditions.

At the same time, clients are more informed than ever before. They have access to a huge amount of information online, but that doesn’t always translate into clarity. Many people are looking for someone who can help them understand their options and develop a strategy that’s right for their circumstances, rather than simply finding the lowest interest rate.

This has reinforced the importance of providing personalised advice. My role has evolved beyond arranging finance to helping clients make informed decisions, whether that’s refinancing a home loan, funding a business acquisition or purchasing commercial property. As lending policies continue to change, staying across those changes and matching clients with the right lender has become more valuable than ever.

Personal Life

Outside of work, what are your hobbies and passions? How do you like to spend your time when you’re not focused on business or family?

I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends. We love getting away camping whenever we can—it’s a great way to switch off, enjoy the outdoors and recharge away from the day-to-day pace of work.

Over the past few years I’ve really enjoyed challenging myself with new fitness goals and building healthier habits. I also enjoy catching up with friends over a good coffee or barbecue and I’m always interested in learning something new, whether it’s about business, finance or personal development.

Are there any books or podcasts you’ve found particularly inspiring or informative recently? Any recommendations for the WorkLife community?

One podcast I’ve really enjoyed recently is The Mindset Mentor by Rob Dial. It covers topics like mindset, discipline, habits and personal growth in a practical, easy-to-apply way.

How do you maintain boundaries between work and personal life? Any top tips?

When I’m with my family, I try to be fully present, and when I’m working, I focus on the tasks that have the biggest impact. I’m also getting better at accepting that there will always be more work to do, but there are moments with your family that you don’t get back.

It’s definitely a work in progress,

Home and Lifestyle

What is your taste like? Do you have a favourite item of furniture or object in your home? Anything that has special significance or tells a story about you?

With two young daughters, it’s a busy household. In summer, my favourite place is our outdoor entertaining area, where we have barbecues, catch up with family and friends, watch the kids play and just relax. In winter, it’s our fireplace, when the kids help me light the fire and we sit together and watch a movie.

What do you like/appreciate about the design at WorkLife? Any favourite touches or things that make you feel at home when you are at work?

For me, it’s the people; everyone is friendly, approachable and makes it an enjoyable place to work.

If you were to showcase the best of the local lifestyle to visiting friends, where would you take them and why?

I’d take them to Sea Cliff Bridge. Every time I go there, it reminds me how beautiful the Illawarra is.

Benefits of WorkLife Membership

Lastly, what’s been the most valuable aspect of being a member at WorkLife for you and your work?

The most valuable part of being a WorkLife member has been the connections — meeting great people, building relationships and feeling part of a genuine local business community.
